Phil May Promoted to Senior Vice President & General Manager, Warner/Chappell Nashville

Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, today announced the promotion of Phil May to Senior Vice President & General Manager, Warner/Chappell Nashville. In this role, May will oversee business development, songwriter negotiations, finance, acquisitions, and royalty and copyright & contract administration for the major publisher’s Nashville operation. He previously served as Vice President & General Manager. 

“Phil May is professionalism personified,” said Ben Vaughn, Executive Vice President, Warner/Chappell Nashville.

Remembering Allen Toussaint

You can always tell when the world loses an artist who has really touched our lives by the outpouring of love and memories from fans and fellow musicians. When New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint passed away last week at the age of 77, the admirers who shared their thoughts and feelings ranged from The Rolling Stones and Paul Simon to Questlove and Elvis Costello. 

That speaks volumes about what made Allen so special — he was a musicians’ musician: a producer, songwriter, arranger, session pianist, and solo artist of enormous talent and influence.

Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Anthony Jackson’s “For the Love of Money” to Join 2016 Grammy Hall of Fame

The Recording Academy today announced that the O’Jays’ “For the Love of Money”—written by Warner/Chappell songwriters Kenny GambleLeon Huff and Anthony Jackson—is among 26 recordings that will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016. This marks the second induction of a song from Gamble & Huff, following the duo’s “Love Train,” also performed by The O’Jays.

President Obama Names Stephen Sondheim a Recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Today, President Barack Obama named Warner/Chappell songwriter Stephen Sondheim a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. The awards will be presented to 17 recipients at the White House on November 24th.
