East West

on April 28, 2015 - 6:20pm

The venerable East West name has been through several incarnations over the past six decades. In 2014, the label was relaunched as a division of Warner Music UK, and is home to a wide range of artists, among them Simply Red, Jools Holland, The Corrs, Rumer, and Beverly Knight. East West was originally formed in 1957 as a subsidiary of Atlantic, with a roster that included artists such as the Kingsmen (members of Bill Haley’s Comets), Jay Holliday, Johnny Houston, and the Glowtones. After being dormant for nearly thirty years, the label was revived as a jazz imprint by legendary Atlantic executive Nesuhi Ertegun, who produced several notable recordings for the label before his untimely passing in 1989. The following year, it returned as a genre-spanning label featuring En Vogue, Pantera, Gerald Levert, Missy Elliott, and others. The East West of today remains distinguished by artistic diversity, selectivity, and excellence.
