Warner/Chappell Songwriter JAY Z to be Inducted Into Songwriters Hall of Fame

February 22, 2017

In a letter to staff, Warner/Chappell Music Chairman & CEO, Jon Platt, congratulated JAY Z on his upcoming induction to the Songwriters Hall of Fame:

Dear Colleagues,

During his glittering career, JAY Z’s extraordinary songwriting has been celebrated with the greatest accolades in the world of music, including 21 Grammys, over 100 million album sales worldwide, and the record for most Billboard No.1 albums by a solo artist.

Today, his songwriting is celebrated with a new, landmark achievement: being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. It also says a lot that Jay was voted into the SHOF in his first year on the nominee ballot.

Since his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, was released over two decades ago, it’s been an incredible honor to work with the greatest MC of all time as he continues to achieve the unprecedented.

With this announcement, Jay is also the first rap artist to ever be inducted into the SHOF. This is an enormous accomplishment for Jay, as well as on behalf of fellow hip-hop songwriters everywhere, as he takes his place alongside past inductees and legends, ranging from Bob Dylan to Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye to Lennon & McCartney.

All of us at Warner/Chappell can be immensely proud that it is JAY Z, who has made this historic moment possible with his revolutionary body of work.

The great Nile Rodgers broke the news with a special appearance on CBS This Morning, and the ceremony will take place on June 15th in New York. Please join me in congratulating him on this fantastic recognition!

Jon
