Oscar Completes Trifecta of Major Awards Including “Best Original Song-Motion Picture” at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and “Best Song” at the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards
Warner/Chappell Music, the global music publishing arm of Warner Music Group Corp. (NYSE: WMG), is pleased to celebrate the first Academy Award for 28-year old Warner/Chappell singer/songwriter Ryan Bingham. Bingham, took home the Oscar in the “Original Song” category for co-writing “The Weary Kind (Theme Song from Crazy Heart)” at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards held last night in Los Angeles.
The Oscar win follows a string of awards for Bingham, and his 10-time Grammy Award-winning and fellow Oscar Award-winning co-writer, T Bone Burnett. The film industry’s highest honor completes a trifecta of major awards this season including “Best Original Song-Motion Picture” at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and “Best Song” at the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

New Mexico-born, Texas-raised rodeo bull rider turned singer/songwriter, Bingham made his major-label debut in October of 2007 with the release of Mescalito, which featured production by Marc Ford, former guitarist for the Black Crowes. In June 2009, Bingham released the follow up, Roadhouse Sun, with his band, Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses
“The Weary Kind” served as the theme song for Crazy Heart, the multi-award winning film based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Thomas Cobb. The film tells the story about a down-and-out country music singer/songwriter who tries to turn his life around after beginning a relationship with a young journalist.
In addition to promoting “The Weary Kind (Theme Song from Crazy Heart),” Bingham is also touring in support of his recently released album, Roadhouse Sun.
