“Wake Me Up” Songwriter/Vocalist Joins Award-Winning Music Publisher
Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, today announced that it has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Aloe Blacc. The deal covers his entire Wake Me Up EP in North America, as well as rights to all songs on the EP across the rest of the world with the exception of the title track. Warner/Chappell also has global rights for Aloe’s much-anticipated upcoming album, Lift Your Spirit, and for all future songwriting.
Blacc is the co-writer and vocalist on one of 2013’s biggest global success stories, Swedish DJ Avicii’s massive hit, “Wake Me Up,” which has hit No. 1 in over 100 countries. The song’s success marks the second time that he has topped international charts, following 2010’s “I Need A Dollar.” Blacc’s third solo album, Lift Your Spirit, is slated for release in early 2014.

In advance of the release of his new solo album, Blacc has released the Wake Me Up EP. In addition to an acoustic version of the title song, the five-song collection includes “The Man,” which is featured in the current Beats by Dre commercial featuring basketball star Kevin Garnett.
Born in Southern California to Panamanian parents, Blacc began his musical career while still in high school, joining with DJ Exile to form the rap duo Emanon, who released their first mixtape when he was just 17 years old. The duo went on to produce a string of EPs and full-length albums, becoming favorites on the indie hip-hop scene. At the same time, Blacc toured and recorded with members of the collective Lootpack.
In 2003, Blacc embarked on a solo career, making the transition from rapper to singer. He has since released two critically acclaimed albums, Shine Through (2006) and Good Things (2010). The latter featured “I Need A Dollar,” a global smash that was used as the theme song for the HBO series, How To Make It In America. Good Things – which also featured the European hits “Loving You Is Killing Me” and “Green Lights” – was certified gold in the UK, France, Germany, and Australia.
In 2012, Blacc was nominated for two Brit Awards, and he has won raves for his live performances at such festivals as Glastonbury (UK), Montreux Jazz (Switzerland), Lollapalooza (US), Falls Festival (Australia), and Osheaga (Canada).
