Philippe Jaroussky Performs at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie Opening

Warner Music artist Philippe Jaroussky captivated the audience at the Grand Opening Ceremony for the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg this week.

Jaroussky performed alongside others including the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester during which the facade of the Elbphilharmonie became a canvas for a one-of-a-kind light display transforming the music into colors and shapes on the building’s facade.

The ceremony in the Grand Hall marked the beginning of the opening festivities. Speeches were given by German Federal President Joachim Gauck; First Mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz; Jacques Herzog from Herzog & de Meuron and General and Artistic Director Christoph Lieben-Seutter.  Other guests included German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and numerous other high-ranking representatives from the worlds of politics and culture.

The concert hall, which will be the new musical heart of the northern German city, was designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron.  Perched between the city and the harbor, the Elbphilharmonie unites the former Kaispeicher warehouse with a new glass structure. In addition to two concert halls, among other features, the building is home to a hotel and a viewing platform.
