Warner Music UK today announced Alex Macnutt has become Head of Compilations. Effective immediately, Macnutt will report to Dan Chalmers, Managing Director, Rhino UK.
Working closely with Chalmers, Macnutt will look after Warner Music’s presence in the UK compilation market. His role will cover all aspects of the release process from concept design, A&R and licensing through to marketing and advertising. On dance releases, he will also co-operate with Anton Partridge at Warner Music UK’s recently announced dance imprint, One More Tune.
Dan Chalmers said “Compilations remain a great way to introduce people to new music and create fresh opportunities for hit songs. Alex’s track record in this important area speaks for itself. Adept at putting together exciting albums and using TV to create an ‘event’ buzz, he’s one of the best in the business and we’re delighted to be working with him.”
Alex Macnutt said “It’s vitally important in the current compilations market to fully engage with customers by delivering well-planned concepts that are creatively captivating. I’m very much looking forward to working more closely with Dan and the excellent team at Rhino, as we deliver these must-have products and generate new possibilities for both frontline artists and the back catalogue.”
Until 2000, Macnutt was Director at Telstar TV, which he left to found Musicmix, a company specialising in compiling, clearing and marketing TV-advertised compilations. From 2006-2008, he consulted for UMTV and then, until September 2010, Ministry of Sound. Macnutt has been responsible for many of the most popular compilations of recent years including platinum-selling releases such as ‘The Chillout Session’, ‘Motown 50’, ‘Chilled’, ‘The Anthems’ and ‘My Songs’. This year alone, he has been heavily involved in three number one compilations, including the double-platinum-selling ‘Anthems Electronic 80s’ as well as ‘Running Trax’ and ‘Chilled Acoustic’. He was also instrumental in other top three releases, ‘Epic’ and ‘Weekend Songs’. In addition, he also compiled ‘Ministry Of Sound Anthems Disco’ and ‘Electronic 80s Vol 2’, both released this month.
