Ian Monsod Appointed Managing Director, Warner Music Philippines

Warner Music Group today announced thatIan Monsod has been appointed Managing Director of Warner Music Philippines. He will take up the role on October 2 and report to Calvin Wong, Warner Music’s President, South East Asia, Hong Kong and Korea.

Warner Music Philippines is home to artists including Ben & Ben, Jireh Lim, Kithara, LeAnn & Naara, Mark Carpio, Midnight Meetings, Moonstar 88, Quest, and Sud.

Ian Monsod said: “I’m thrilled to join the Warner Music Philippines family as Managing Director. Prior to my recent foray into the tech industry, my over 20-year career in media and entertainment had spanned both creative and commercial roles – from playing bass in a rock band to handling corporate strategy. I plan to use that mix of experience to bring unique value to the operations of Warner Music Philippines, our amazing artists, and the Philippine music industry in general.”

Calvin Wong added: “I’m so pleased to welcome Ian to Warner Music. The Philippines has become increasingly globally significant to us as the digital business there has exploded. Ian is well placed to help us break new talent and build the careers of established artists in one of the world’s fastest growing music markets.”

Ian joins WMG after serving as President and CEO of Fintechnology Inc, the technology company that pioneered one of the Philippines’ first peer-to-peer online lending platforms.

Ian earned his Economics degree from the University of the Philippines in 1993, but began his career as a professional musician, composer, arranger, and sound engineer. His diverse musical endeavours include playing bass guitar for the rock band Mariya’s Mistress, to composing a sung-through musical for Repertory Philippines. As an entrepreneur, he established Sound Crew, a music production and recording studio, and The Works, an events production company, which he both managed until he left to pursue his MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2003.

After completing his graduate studies in 2005, Ian joined Digicorp, a Los Angeles-based media and technology company. He went on to work for Sesame Workshop, the New York-based educational media company behind Sesame Street from 2007 to 2011, before returning to the Philippines as VP of Business

Development at TV5, and eventually the Head of the Office of Strategy Management at Mediaquest, the media holding company of the PLDT Group – the country’s largest telecoms provider. He went on to lead Fintechnology in 2016.

Ian has also served as a member of the Philippines Film Ratings Board and was a board member of Katha, the Philippine Guild of Composers and Arrangers. He was also a professional theatre actor, having performed in shows including Les Misérables and Jesus Christ Superstar.
