2019 Breakout Star Lizzo Signs Global Agreement with Warner Chappell Music

July 23, 2019

Warner Chappell Music today announced that it has entered into a global publishing administration agreement with rising superstar Lizzo, covering her existing and future work. Lizzo has stormed the charts around the world with upbeat, melodic anthems like “Juice” and “Truth Hurts.” Her debut album on Atlantic Records, Cuz I Love You, is an instant classic that showcases her phenomenal talents as a vocalist, rapper, songwriter, and flutist. The critically acclaimed album reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. as well as breaking into the top of the charts in Australia, Ireland, Scotland, and the UK.

Lizzo said: “Songwriting has always been a passion of mine even before I started singing, rapping or playing the flute. Having people connect to my lyrics is one of the most rewarding things about creating music and I’m so honored that Warner Chappell is giving me this platform to do what I love. Partnering with Ryan, Guy, Marc and the talented team at Warner Chappell is a dream because they truly understand and respect my craft. Their support means the world to me and I’m excited to be a part of the team.”

Warner Chappell Music’s Co-Chair and CEO, Guy Moot, said: “Lizzo is a truly original artist and songwriter, blessed with a powerhouse voice and effortless flow. She’s a leader among a new generation of talent shaping pop music, and we’re delighted she’s chosen to be with Warner Chappell.”

WCM’s President of A&R, U.S., Ryan Press, said: “Lizzo is unapologetically her bold, clever, creative self at all times. Her energy, honesty, and positivity are infectious, and as a songwriter, rapper & singer, she is doing things that no one else is doing.”

Last month, Rolling Stone named Cuz I Love You one of the 50 Best Albums of 2019 So Far, and several songs from the album have received a wide array of sync placements – in commercials, television shows, movies, and more.

Known for her empowering outlook, avid social media presence (IG: @lizzobeeating), body-positivity and LGBTQ+ rights advocacy, and show-stopping live sets, Lizzo has performed at Coachella, Glastonbury, Sacramento Pride, Indy Pride, and the BET Awards – all in the past six months alone. She has also collaborated with the likes of Prince, Missy Elliott, and Charli XCX.
