Legendary Spanish Artist Melendi Signs Deal with Warner/Chappell

Multi-platinum selling Spanish singer songwriter Melendi has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group (WMG). The deal covers both his extensive back catalogue and new music that he is currently working on.

Melendi has sold more than four million records to date and is the most streamed artist ever in Spain, according to figures from Spotify.  He is also known to millions as a judge on the Spanish and Mexican editions of TV singing competition The Voice.

Melendi says: “I am glad to start this new chapter in my life with Warner/Chappell.  I am sure that we will achieve great things together.”

Santiago Menendez-Pidal, Managing Director of Warner/Chappell Music Spain, adds: “Melendi’s ability to fuse rock, rumba and flamenco styles with a gift for storytelling has struck a collective chord in Spain.  We’re so proud that he’s invested his trust in us as his new music publishing partner.  He has an incredible catalogue and some of the new projects he’s working on will blow fans away.”

Ramón Melendi Espina has been writing and recording music for more than 15 years.  His first big breakthrough came in 2004 when national cycle race Vuelta a España adopted his song ‘Con La Luna Llena’ as its official theme tune.

International success followed in 2006 when he wrote the song ‘Gangs of London’, for the PSP game of the same name which he also starred in, which was released worldwide by EMI.

A string of Platinum selling albums followed, including Curiosa La Cara De Tu Padre (2008), Volvamos A Empezar (2010), Lágrimas Desordenadas (2012), Un Alumno Más (2014), Directo A Septiembre (2015) and Quítate Las Gafas (2016).  His most recent album, Ahora, was released in March 2018 and was also a Platinum certified hit that topped the Spanish charts.

His latest song, ‘Déjala Que Baile’, featuring Alejandro Sanz, was a huge hit in Spain last year, topping the airplay charts and going to Number One.

Melendi has also built a reputation as an incredible live performer.  In 2017, he attracted more than 200,000 people to almost 40 gigs across Spain, making him the biggest live act of the year. He also regularly tours the US and Latin America.

He is currently working with top producers, including Andrés Torres y Mauricio Rengifo, who co-produced ‘Despacito’, and songwriters such as Andrés Saavedra, who has written for Alejandro Sanz and Chayanne, and Andy Clay who has written for Karol G. His new album is expected to be released this autumn and he will support it with an international tour.
