RIP Marie Fredriksson

December 10, 2019

Marie Fredriksson of the band Roxette has passed away following a 17-year long battle with cancer.

Marie first found fame as a solo artist before partnering with Per Gessle to form Roxette in 1986. They quickly enjoyed success in their native Sweden and had their first worldwide smash with “The Look” in 1989, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US.

Follow-up hits included “Listen To Your Heart,” “It Must Have Been Love,” “Joyride,” “Dressed For Success,” “Sleeping In My Car,” “Dangerous” and “How Do You Do!”. The band sold more than 80 million records and toured around the globe.

Despite her ill health, the band continued to record and tour until she was forced to retire in 2016.

Jonas Siljemark, President, Warner Music Nordics, says: “We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Marie Frederiksson. She was an amazing artist who touched the lives of people around the world and leaves behind an incredible musical legacy. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.”
