Warner Chappell Music Signs Publishing Deal with Corridos Tumbados Pioneer and Hitmaker Natanael Cano

May 11, 2022

Warner Chappell Music (WCM) has signed a worldwide publishing deal with 21-year-old superstar singer/songwriter Natanael Cano – who also releases music under Warner Music Latina /Rancho Humilde and his label Los CT. Known as the pioneer of the highly popular corridos tumbados movement (a unique blend of Mexican corridos with American trap music), Cano reached new heights in 2019 when he collaborated with global Latin superstar Bad Bunny on the 4x multi-platinum single “Soy El Diablo (Remix).” Last month, Cano took the stage at Coachella for the very first time as one of the festival’s lead Latin acts, where he debuted songs from his critically-acclaimed new album, NataKong, which features his signature mix of corridos tumbados and trap. The album recently earned him his first top 10 hit on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Albums chart.

Gustavo Menéndez, President, U.S. Latin & Latin America, WCM said: “Nata is a unique talent, who at such a young age, has already secured his legacy in the industry. He has an incredible delivery with an uncanny penmanship as a songwriter, no matter the genre. I’ve also had the opportunity to spend time with Nata outside of the studio and he’s an incredible and inspiring human being. We are proud that he’s entrusted us to be his publisher and continue to help pave the way.”

On signing with Warner Chappell, Natanael Cano shared: “I’m excited to join forces with Gustavo and the Warner Chappell team to share my music on a global scale. With our shared vision, I know we’ll accomplish great things together.”

Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Cano began making music at the age of 13 with no musical training, and by the age of 16, he had already written multiple songs. In 2018, he started uploading his music to YouTube and within a few months – along with garnering a strong social following – his track “El De Los Lentes Gucci” hit over one million views. The following year, he claimed several No. 1’s including the 8x multi-platinum single “El Drip” from his album Corridos Tumbados, which ruled Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart. He also teamed up with regional Mexican icon Alejandro Fernández to release a remix of his single “Amor Tumbado,” which landed the top spot on Billboard’s Mexico Popular Airplay chart. In 2020, he became the first Mexican artist to be featured on Apple Music’s ‘Up Next’ series. His next album A Mis 20 debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart. This year, he released his half trap and half corridos tumbados album NataKong which features the lead song “Nataaoki” produced by fellow WCM writer Steve Aoki, under Warner Music Latina/Rancho Humilde and his label Los CT.
