Win Underscores Company’s Genre-Spanning Authority
Gucci Mane Named Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year
WCM Songwriters Earn 25 Most Performed Song of the Year Awards
Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, was named 2018 Music Publisher of the Year at last night’s annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. This prestigious honor follows WCM’s recent win as Publisher of the Year at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards, reinforcing the company’s command of the industry’s fastest-growing genres. In addition, Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane took home the coveted Songwriter of the Year award.
Warner/Chappell Chairman & CEO Jon Platt said: “The caliber of hip-hop & R&B music that Warner/Chappell songwriters are creating is taking the culture to new places. It’s great to see such a diverse array of talent recognized with this top honor. I’m especially excited for Gucci Mane, who is such a hard-working, and prolific songwriter. He is so deserving of this distinction.”
In Nielsen Music’s 2017 year-end music report, R&B/hip-hop and Latin were two of the fastest-growing genres in U.S. music, with R&B/hip-hop becoming the most dominant genre in the U.S. for the first time ever, and Latin music doubling its U.S. market share.
