Industry Veteran and Longtime WEA Exec Joins WBR Senior Management Team

Warner Bros. Records (WBR) today announced the appointment of Larry Mattera to a newly created post on WBR’s senior management team.  Effective November 2, Mattera will become WBR’s Executive Vice President, Commerce, Digital Marketing & Strategy.  A two-decade industry veteran, Mattera joins WBR from WEA, Warner Music Group’s global artist and label services arm, where he was most recently SVP, Head of Global Digital Accounts.  Mattera will relocate from New York to WBR’s headquarters in Burbank and will report directly to Cameron Strang, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. Records.

Mattera’s role will, for the first time at WBR, combine oversight of the label’s commercial activities, across all traditional and digital platforms, with responsibility for digital marketing initiatives and strategy.  This unique purview will enable Mattera to lead innovative approaches to building artists’ careers, monetizing music, growing business accounts and helping transform the company in the burgeoning streaming marketplace.

“Throughout his career, Larry has pioneered ways of breaking artists and connecting them with passionate fan bases,” said Cameron Strang. “His leadership skills, wide-ranging digital expertise and respected ability to forge impactful relationships with colleagues, artists and business partners, all make Larry a fantastic addition to our senior management team.  He’s the perfect choice to spearhead our mission to provide our artists with inventive strategies and campaigns that capitalize on new and established channels, including by achieving outstanding results on streaming platforms.  I am very happy to welcome Larry to the Warner Bros. team.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining Warner Bros. during a dynamic new period in its illustrious history.  Having worked closely with the Warner Bros. team during my years at WEA, I have long admired the label’s deep devotion to artist development,” said Larry Mattera. “The music business is in the midst of an unprecedented transition, bringing tremendous challenges and opportunities, including a fantastic array of fresh marketing and commercial avenues.  I’m looking forward to working with everyone at Warner Bros. to take its legendary roster to new heights and launch a new generation of successful artists. I want to thank Matt Signore and all my colleagues at WEA for a wonderful eight years, and Cameron for offering me this amazing new opportunity.”

Before joining WEA in 2007 as SVP, Digital Sales & Marketing, Mattera spent six years at Island Def Jam, where he created the company’s New Media Department. He began his career in 1994 at Epic Records and then moved to Polygram Group Distribution in 1996. Mattera holds a B.S. degree from Sacred Heart University and an M.A. degree from New York University.
