Last night, Warner/Chappell Music – the publishing arm of Warner Music Group – hosted an event at Berlin’s exclusive Soho House to celebrate the launch of Toy, the latest album from veteran trailblazing electronic band Yello, aka songwriting duo Boris Blank and Dieter Meier. The event was attended by luminaries from the film industry, as well as senior executives from leading advertising agencies, as Warner/Chappell highlighted the potential of music from Yello’s new album for sync deals.

Boris Blank and Dieter Meier said: “We are delighted that Warner/Chappell has thrown a party to mark the launch of Toy.  They have delivered great sync deals for us in the past that have helped take our music to a wider audience and we’ve every confidence they will repeat that success in the future.”

Lars Karlsson, Warner/Chappell’s Managing Director for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Nordics, said: “Yello’s music has always been highly sought after in movies and commercials around the world.  Our global offices are determined to continue to strike the best deals possible for their new and existing repertoire.  We’ve recently renewed our long-term relationship with Boris and Dieter and wanted to use this opportunity to tell the world ‘Yello is back!’.”

Formed in the late 1970s, Yello has produced 13 studio albums and pioneered music that defied traditional categorization, combining elements from avant-garde pop, rap, techno and other genres to create a quixotic and exceptional sound.  The duo also composes audio-visually, merging the acoustic with the visual, to create music that is effectively designed as a soundtrack.

Yello’s most-synced track is the 1985 classic “Oh Yeah”, which was used in the feature films Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Secret of My Success and K-9, as well as being the theme tune for the character Duffman in the TV series The Simpsons.  The song was also used by Honda in an advert that debuted at the 2012 Super Bowl.

Previous successful sync deals for Yello date back to the placing of the track “The Race” as the theme tune ofFormel 1, the most popular German TV music show in the 1980s, and in the film Nuns On The Run.  More recent examples include the use of their music in the TV shows GleeThe GoldbergsLimitless and The Office; in commercials for Audi, Euronics, Fendi and Old El Paso; as well as in Polyphony Digital’s gameGran Turismo 4.

The band will support the launch of Toy by playing their first ever live shows next month at Berlin’s Kraftwerk, a disused power station in the German capital
