Lee Thomas Miller Receives Inaugural BMI CHAMPION AWARD
Warner/Chappell Music (WCM) and its songwriters have swept Country Music Week in Nashville, with the company being named ASCAP Publisher of the Year for the third year in a row, and its songwriters taking home a collective 31 Country Music Awards from the three major performing rights organizations, including: 17 ASCAP “Most Performed Song” Awards, 10 BMI “Top Song” Awards, and four SESAC “Country Performance Activity” Awards. In addition, WCM’s Ashley Gorley was named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year, and WCM songwriter and NSAI President Lee Thomas Miller was given the inaugural BMI Champion Award for his advocacy on behalf of music creators. At last night’s CMA Awards, WCM songwriter Liz Rose won the Song of the Year CMA for “Girl Crush,” from WCM songwriters Little Big Town, who also won Single of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year (fourth year running). WCM songwriter Chris Stapleton won all three awards he was nominated for: Male Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year for Traveller, which was produced by WCM songwriter Dave Cobb.
